Chairholder Professor Konstantinos Aravossis at the 9th HSWMA Conference
Chairholder Professor Konstantinos Aravossis actively participated in the 9th Conference of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (HSWMA), titled “Circular Cities 2030: From Planning to Implementation.”
In his welcome address, Prof. Aravossis highlighted the enduring contribution of HSWMA, noting that strategic proposals put forward 15 years ago during his tenure as President—such as the “Pay-As-You-Throw” system and Waste-to-Energy initiatives—are now actively being set in motion.
During the Circular Cities Forum session, he presented the upcoming initiatives of the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RAAEY). These include the new “Pay-As-You-Throw” Guide, the key performance indicators for Solid Waste Management Agencies (FODSA), and targeted proposals for their operational enhancement.
Furthermore, in the session dedicated to the EU Circular Economy Act, Prof. Aravossis presented the public consultation results and outlined RAAEY’s official proposals regarding the new European legislative initiative.
Concluding his interventions, he emphasized a clear vision for the future: the necessary transition from good intentions to measurable implementation, and the critical shift from traditional waste management to holistic resource management.
