An UNESCO Chair got established in Greece on Circular Economy and Green Innovation!
The UNESCO Chair on Green Innovation and Circular Economy was awarded on 28th of June 2022 to Professor Konstantinos Aravossis, Coordinator of the Economic Environment and Sustainable Development Research Unit of the National Technical University of Athens.
Launched in 1992, the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme, which involves over 850 institutions in 120 countries, promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work. The programme supports the establishment of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks in key priority areas related to UNESCO’s fields of competence – i.e. in education, the natural and social sciences, culture and communication.
It is worth noting that this particular Chair is the first on Green Innovation and Circular Economy not only in Greece, but in all of the the network.
The purpose of the seat is to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation for green innovation and the circular economy, at an international level.
Professor Aravossis mentioned: “Tackling the Climate Crisis and Sustainable Development with an emphasis on the Environment, are among the top priorities of UNESCO and through its network and scientific impact, we will have the chance to contribute to problem solving of national interest.“
