Education
Yanna Pavlopoulou holds an MSc in Ship Management from Liverpool JMU (School of Engineering) -thesis on “Corporate Social Responsibility of the Greek-owned Shipping”-. She has a Law Degree from Athens Law School (highest distinction-Arista), a Master of Laws from GEORGETOWN University (with full scholarship) and Post-Grad Diplomas in Maritime Sustainability, LNG & Supply Chain Management as a beneficiary of TRAIN MOS II (EU H2020 funded educational project). She is a PhD Candidate for the UNESCO Chair on Green Innovation and Circular Economy of the National Technical University of Athens, which is incorporated in the Environmental Economics and Sustainability Unit (ESU) of the School of Mechanical Engineering.
Research Interest
European and Greek legal, tax and governance framework conditions of circular collaborative production. Methodologies of stakeholder engagement in digital collaborative ecosystems.
Sustainability/CSR/ESG reporting and accountability. Assessment of resource efficiency management in the maritime industry. Maritime transport and environmental risk management. Social and inclusive entrepreneurship.
She is a Researcher and PhD Candidate at the UNESCO Chair on Green Innovation and Circular Economy of the National Technical University of Athens. Yanna recently moved to the USA and is working remotely on her PhD thesis.
Yanna Pavlopoulou is the Founder and Managing Partner of CommonLawgic, a private Sustainability Research Center. Yanna practised law (Athens Bar 1987-2014), specializing in maritime, civil and corporate law, as a former General Counsel and BoD member at Hellenic Star Shipping Co. She then worked as a Strategy advisor and lately as Senior Researcher for the Pop Machina project (https://pop-machina.eu/ ) an H2020 EU Grant (2019-2023). Pop Machina promotes the maker movement’s potential and circular collaborative production in seven pilot cities across Europe. Assurance providers have trained Yanna as Sustainability Report Verifier and Assessor on Excellence Management Models. She has many published papers in scientific journals, professional press and conference proceedings, raising awareness of expert panels.
She actively has served many stakeholder groups and clubs (SNAME, Let’s do it Greece, Propeller Club/Port of Piraeus, HELMEPA, Georgetown Alumni Club of Greece, WISTA, ICC Hellas, EEDE etc.) and continues, since 2005, as the Coordinator of ALUMNI HUB.
Yanna has a strong legal and technical background with academic and practical experience in applied research management. Through long, social and environmental volunteer service, she developed critical thinking, analytical, networking, and communicative skills.
